So sad after breakfast
Am I the only one sad when breakfast is over? it is just the second most pleasurable meal after dinners with friends or a meal with PB (PhillyBoy, not peanut butter). I am always sad when I’m done with it.
This morning I had planned a different snack but I forgot it so I had a sliced cuke with the same, 1 tbs of hummus. I only have 1 tbs left so you won’t be seeing this snack next week! I took a pic but no need to post yet another one right?
For lunch I had 1/2 a Joseph’s flax wrap with my other mushroom and 1/2 oz of goat cheese. Along with it I had a serving of oat bran pretzels, a dove promise chocolate, and a spinach salad with 1 tbs of Annie’s balsamic dressing. The dressing is light and perfect when you are feeling lazy. I had that entire spread for only 350 calories. That is some serious volume eating.
But I don’t think I am getting enough protein. How much do I actually need if I weigh between 136-138 and have a pretty muscular body. Anyone know? Not sure which sites to believe. I think it is supposed to be about 0.8 g per lb but that sounds like a lot to me.
I am lifting after work so I plan on having a Clif mini + an apple with pb this afternoon. Perfect fuel for a workout. Be back tonight with dinner!

Depends how hard you are working out/hitting the weights. Tell me about your workout regime and I would be happy to help…

I have to admit, I feel a little sad too; but then I remember that breakfast comes everyday, so it’s all good, haha

Love volume eating
As for protein – the RDA’s are set 2 whole standard deviations above the average that is actually needed by people. So if the average person needs .5 grams per pound of body weight, the RDA will be set to encompass 95% of the population. I don’t know what the actual mean is, but the RDA’s are quite high. I don’t want to suggest an actual number as I’m not a nutritionist, but you can’t go wrong with adding a cup of greek yogurt to your diet if you really want to up the protein (I think it has 20 grams per cup or something crazy like that). I’ve been trying to up my protein recently too, and my skin has been clearing up and I stay full a lot longer. I still probably only get 30-35 grams or so per day, but that’s just what works for me

TWINSKY- i just posted on your site, thanks
VeggieGirl- that’s a good way to think about it!
Maggie- so from what you are saying I am probably getting plenty. I get between 50 and 65 grams of protein a day. that sounds like enough right? I just get confused bc the RDAs are so off in general.

haha, i think that’s why i eat breakfast for lunch or dinner alot!!

I’m always sad when breakfast is over too. But the worst is when dinner’s over and I know I don’t get to enjoy any new food until the next day

Yeah, I would think that 50-65 grams/day would be plenty (bug again, I’m not a nutritionist). Another thing I’ve heard was that 20-30% of your meals should be protein, but I’m not sure if that means in volume or in calories. Probably calories.

I am sad when breakfast is over, too. I could literally eat it allllll day long!
The protein thing is pretty controversial. I eat lots of it, but I hear that’s not necessary. I just know when I saw a nutritionist, she told me 65+ grams is the norm. I probably get 100 or more, depending on how much I work out.
