Lacroix Love
I am sitting in the Philadelphia airport right now smiling coyly to myself and thinking about my fabulous weekend…and listening to my iTunes playlists that PhillyBoy was able to bring over from my old Dell. Thank goodness for my nerdy fiance hhahaha! PhillyBoy and I had a dreamy few days. He is really amazing! I hope all of you had great weekends too! I actually took a really embarrassing video making philly cheesesteaks on Friday night but we can’t figure out how to edit it on our Macs (it is an .mpg from a sony camera and won’t work in iVideo?!?) but once I do I will post it!
On to our tasty lunch…
Saturday, the day of love, was really great. We went to this fabulous restaurant in Rittenhouse Square called Lacroix. It is actually in the Rittenhouse Hotel. Have any of you been there? It was definitely the type of experience we both wanted. We went for lunch so we both dressed up, but were bundled so we could stroll afterward. The meal was amazing, to say the least, and the company even better.
Gorgeous, organic/natural decor:
PB and I:
We started by sharing the chilled seafood salad, which was incredible. So incredible, in fact, that I forgot to take a picture! For our second course I selected a delicious crabcake and PB picked a decadent ham and cheese risotto (with gruyere, yum!). The service was really great- they were attentive while not overbearing. Our teacups were filled constantly, and every request was fulfilled with enthusiasm and care. I love restaurants like that. And the meal itself. oh… it doesn’t really have words, it was THAT good. And everything was insanely fresh.
My crabcake (topped with a fried egg, an interesting and unusual but delicious flavor combination):
Phillyboy’s Risotto:
The portions were just right, and it reminded me that when food is fresh and is of great quality you don’t need to eat a lot of it or to add a lot of ingredients to make it special and satisfying.
Dessert. Our lovely server brought out a compotier of 6 different mini desserts. Our option was to keep that or to pick what we liked from it and enjoy just our selections. We selected a banana cake and a chocolate buttercream. Both came with a smear of fresh whipped cream and a few fresh berries and poached pear slices. It was divine, and the portions were just right. Along with our desserts we were served a few sugar covered almonds, orange rinds, and dried cranberries. Also to die for.
Sweet treats:
I can’t wait to go back again!!! Thank you David and Marta for our fabulous giftcard (engagement present!).. We definitely put it to good use! If you are in the Philly area and want to impress or just want to eat a 5 star meal, head to Lacroix!
Let me add that a special meal isn’t about just the food.. In this case what made the experience was not just the incredible food, atmosphere, service, etc. but also the incredible company. PhillyBoy and I had such a nice time on our date talking about our wedding and our future and.. our closets and such. Sometimes the most mundane things (like, ahem, designing our closet systems!) can be so much fun to talk about and do when you are with the right company. Thank you for a great date and weekend PB!
I went there once for a work function! I love the whole Rittenhouse Sqaure area. I totally agree about the environment and atmosphere of a restaurant contributing to the dining experience.
That looks like such a nice lunch and you two obviously enjoyed the company. I completely agree that it’s all about the person, not the tasks. You guys are really cute together!
WOW! Sounds like a great Valentine’s day lunch! Egg and crab cake does sound like an unusual combo- but I bet it was great!
You + PB + V-Day celebration = perfection.
How fun! You can tell just by looking at the picture of you how much fun you were having!
Those eats look fabulous! I grew up outside of Philly, and my parents still live there – I’ll have to recommend Lacroix to them.
Looks so tasty! You’ve got it absolutely right about it not being just about the food, too.
Also I used your spice mix a few days ago by sprinkling it on some chicken breasts and then cooking them in the George Foreman- SO good!
Thanks for sharing! Looks like an amazing time with some awesome food!
wow, what a great valentines lunch!
that crabcake with the fried egg on top resonates deep to my heart! fried egg is THE perfect adornment to anything, in my opinion!
glad you had a good day, and thanks for the awesome food porn!
