Plane food!
Check this out!
This video was made in the Antwerp, Belgium Central (Train) Station on March 23, 2009, with no warning to the passengers passing through the station. At 8:00a.m. a recording of Julie Andrews singing ‘Do, Re, Mi’ begins to play on the public address system.
As the bemused passengers watch in amazement, some 200 dancers begin to appear from the crowd and station entrances.
They created this amazing stunt with just two rehearsals!
Enjoy!

When I was younger I used to make fun of the people who brought all of their own food to the airport. I don’t know why, but I guess I thought it was weird and crazy that people packed food for the airport.
Now, I AM that person.
A few weeks ago a close relative overseas passed away and when my aunts/uncles/dad were flying out I made them each a snack pack of nuts, little arabic cookies, gum, grapes, and for the ladies, green tea.

They really appreciated it. I guess I had been thinking that they would be stuck with no food for like 14 hours otherwise, since we all know how airport food is. I was worried they’d be hungry!
Then when I was flying to Philly this weekend I packed my dinner. Yep. I didn’t want to wait until 10 PM to eat in Philly and I didn’t have time before I left for the airport so I packed it all up- including utensils and everything!

It wasn’t exactly the best ambiance but I arrived in Philly satisfied, happy, and ready to relax. Usually I arrive grumpy and hungry, so it looks like I did something right!
That wasn’t the weirdest food item I’ve brought though. When I was in full weight loss mode last spring I actually packed my yogurt snack for the airport since I was so paranoid of having to switch up my schedule. Since the 3 oz rule was already in action, I had to pack my yogurt into 2 baby tupperware containers. I brought my toppings + a spoon + a paper bowl and set up my nice little snack once I was through security. Insane!
I am already planning what I will bring for PB and I when we head off on our honeymoon. We have a 5 hour flight + a 3 hour layover + a 7 hour flight! Right now the idea is:
-fruit (apples/containers of melon/grapes)
-bars (kashi tlc bars or clif z bars since we both like both and can agree on them!)
-nuts (almonds + raisins probs)
-2 pressed sandwiches for a late lunch/early dinner OR whole foods salads
Besides food I plan on bringing these items in our carryon:
-deck of cards
-journal to write all about how amazing our wedding was
-Twilight books to read again (1 for the plane ride)
-one of our laptops loaded with dvds
-neck pillow
-1 (ok let’s face it) at least 4 junky magazines for the plane ride and week
What other kinds of things should we pack for the 14+ hours we have in travel time? What is the weirdest thing you’ve brought on a plane? For me, it would probably be the time I brought a whole stack of thank you cards to write while high in the sky. Weird!

I used to be the same way. And then I discovered how not only more healthy, but also more convenient in general bringing my own food is! Thank goodness they allow sandwiches past security! I definitely stick with nuts, sandwiches, fruits, and bars when it comes to traveling.

I am a huge fan of the eye mask for airplanes. My eyes are really sensitive to light and if someone nearby is up all night (or day) reading and I’m trying to get some sleep the eye mask is super helpful. As for food, the only other thing I suggest is bringing an empty water bottle. I always get SO dehydrated on planes, bring an empty water bottle and any of the bars will fill it right up for you with ice cold water!

Way to pack healthy eats!!

I’ve ALWAYS brought my own food. Back when I was training and we would fly overseas, pretzels and those measly meals would not hold an athlete’s appetite! I do have to applaud your yogurt snack – I wouldn’t have thought of that!
Empty water bottle! Fill it up after security

my fave plane trick is bringing a baggie with a cup of oatmeal, brown sugar, dried cherries and flax in it, plus an empty grande sized Starbucks cup and a spoon. Ask for them to fil it with hot water (which they have for tea) when the drinks come around and make your delish oatmeal!

junky magazines + snacks+ ipod full of movies is the only way I can survive a flight!

I’m that person too! Fruit. Sandwiches. Homemade crackers would be tasty too although I have yet to do that one.

Thanks for this post, I’m flying out tomorrow and these tips are so helpful!
I always bring my iPod and motion sickness pills…so I can pass out!

Great ideas! I love the idea of bringing thank-you cards to do on the plane too.

It looks like you have everything covered but bring some reading material too!
[Reply]
what a variety of food you have!! thats such a great idea!

Nothing weird about bringing thank you cards to write over that time. Those are such a pain to find time to get done so it only makes sense to do your wedding thank yours then!

Im so with you on the used to mock and mock no’mo.
the WORST thing I ever brought was popcorn (microwaved and in a ziplock).
Seemed like a great idea until I stunk up the entire cabin.
People thought THAT was the airline snack and were pissed when there was NARY an in-flight treat at all.
oops

Bring a Nintendo DS! For our honeymoon, my husband and I played for hours! It really helped make the time fly!

wow, you are SO prepared for that flight!
wish i was as organized as you..

Did you cook the zucchini (sp)? prior to putting it in your pasta?
[Reply]
Lauren- I sprayed some olive oil on a pan and cooked the zucchini with a bit of salt and hot red pepper for about 10 minutes on medium. I wanted it to be cooked but kind of crunchy too. If I wanted it to be softer I would have added a little water and kept it cooking more. It is really tasty for summer! Then I just add a bit of feta cheese and the pasta (2 oz) and toss together!

I haven’t flown in so long but I will definitely be bringing my own food the next time I fly.

Thanks! It looks great! I will have to give it a try.
