Green City Market in Chicago
My fellow foodie friend Gina told me about the Green City Market, and plans were quickly made to go Saturday morning in Chicago. First, D and I had to do our 8 mile run so we ran the lakefront, passing Millennium Park on the way. A great way to see a city is by running it. Between Saturday and Sunday’s runs I was able to see a lot of Chicago that I would not have otherwise seen. Post run and breakfast, our group headed over to the Green City Market.
According to the market’s website, it is “Chicago’s only year-round farmers’ market promoting local, sustainable farmers, producers and chefs by connecting them to the public through educational programming and special events.” While I did not buy anything, I did take lots of photos of the beautiful produce. It was one of the best markets I have ever been to!
Let the photos tell the story…
At this booth I was called a wimp for not taking a straight up wheatgrass shot! What can I say, I am a wimp! I loved the friendly and fun feeling the market had.
I have never seen so many varieties of squash!
These were called chocolate jalapeno peppers:
The red pepper on the left is a red lipstick jalapeno:
It was a fabulous afternoon filled with some of the most beautiful produce I have ever seen in this country. Who wouldn’t love vegetables when presented with such beauties?
Next time you are in Chicago, check out the Green City Market which is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 7 AM to 1 PM.
Coming tomorrow morning… A GREAT recipe to use for breakfast, lunch, dinner OR a snack! Trust me, this one is a winner!!!!!

The straight wheat grass is not that bad … if mixed with lots of water. 😀
