We are hosting our first holiday.

Life doesn’t have to be perfect to host a great party. PhillyBoy and I do not have the perfect home or the perfect setup yet, but we are doing it anyway and are more than thrilled. The Thanksgiving parade in Philadelphia is just a short walk from our place, so we plan on watching it that morning (with some hot cocoa of course) and then having the family over for brunch. The family includes my dad who will be visiting from Rhode Island! Our planned menu is nothing like a traditional Thanksgiving menu, but it will still be special and fun. The traditional meal will come later in the day when we go over to our aunt’s house for dinner.

But what about the table? I still haven’t made my final decision, but I did buy the Crate & Barrel Eitenne runner in rust. I plan on expanding the table so everyone can sit together (it has a leaf) and putting a simple pale gold tablecloth on the table with the runner. To me food is the perfect centerpiece, so I will probably use the prettiest dish as the centerpiece. If not, I can always fall back on the pretty silver bowl filled with mini pumpkins that is currently sitting on the table:
