I just hopped over her from your more recent post. I think seasonality is key and I would love to buy local as much as possible. Sometimes, local might not be certified organic (which that doesn't even say that much by USDA standards) because it is an expensive and lengthy process so I'll google the farm or ask the seller if at a market. I buy most things organic though when I can.

You need to come visit me! Not only am I surrounded by farm stands but I am surrounded by farms. You don't need to ask them if they grew it - you can see where they grew it!

We have some great Farmer's Markets where I live and so I get the best of all worlds! Usually I am able to buy seasonal organic produce and I LOVE it. It always tastes amazing and fresh!

I try to buy and eat seasonal items because they taste much better and are usually cheaper. Certain foods like strawberries and tomatoes are strictly summer pleasures and taste blah any other time. When the Farmer's Market is open I shop there, but if not I try to buy organic produce at the grocery store. I have an awesome organic market/grocer that tries to sell local produce as much as possible. I look for local items and typically buy the veggies I like that are on sale that week. I don't always buy local or organic because I don't have the money, but I do try to buy the organic on items known to have the highest level of pesticide contamination (apples, celery, berries, spinach, etc).

I always buy organic bananas because they're not expensive and I think they taste so much better.

I'm so excited because we joined a local, organic CSA this year. May 1 can't come soon enough!!

PS I just wrote a guest post for Eating Bender about eating seasonal and local produce.

All there are important to me, all for different reasons. I love the idea of buying locally and knowing what kind of people I am buying produce from. Are these quality individuals who treat their employees well? I think the treatment of workers is an important aspect to consider.

The large grocery stores here (in Denver) are good about pointing out local produce. It might not always be organic, but then not all the produce at Whole Foods is organic.
