(Pictured here via iPhone in front of my friend’s place with my shiny fixed up bike!)
I just rode my bike for the first time in 5 years. When I studied abroad in Italy (and stayed for many more months) I went through 2 or 3 bikes. Our biciclette were stolen many times, but we didn’t care because some shady guy on the street would be selling another one to us for 15 Euro a few days later.
Day and I rode our bikes everywhere in Florence. We made many memories going places, and I remember well one night singing “Vieni daaaa meeee” with Gina. I rode my bike in every outfit imaginable (including my LBD and stilettos) and even once rode it to the discoteca. Those memories are so dear to me.
Today I rode a bike again. The circumstances were so different. I was wearing a helmet this time, and I was biking for exercise. But, ohhhh those memories came rushing right back to me! I became very emotional as I start my next period of bike riding, this time with my husband and friends in tow.
Exercise doesn’t always have to be formal. Riding my bike in the sun at a comfortable pace was fun and didn’t feel like any work at all. I love when exercise feels like that.
I can’t wait to ride everywhere in Philadelphia.
Do you bike ride? If so, PB and I would appreciate any basic tips left in the comments as we are so new to it and will soon begin training for a sprint triathlon.

I love riding bicycles too, my bike needs a bit of a tune up but it’s a lot of fun and a great way to travel in the city in the summertime.

Enjoy your bike! My bike was recently run over by a snowplow in my apartment’s parking lot. I’m sad

i’ve never been to italy, but i can just imagine how incredible that experience was! i wish i rode more, but my bikes are both messed up and i don’t have the cash to fix them…crazy how expensive exercise can be sometimes, right? i hope you guys do a race, though, that would be so fun to read about!

@Heather (Heather’s Dish), Luckily my bike tune up with new tires was only $150- much cheaper than taking a taxi home from CC all the time… eventually!!!! We ARE doing a race! A sprint tri in July!!!!

I really love bike riding – we don’t do anything on the road, but have a great trail that actually goes to DC. We do anywhere form 8-40 miles. I think it is a great workout!
And you look fabulous!

I love riding a bike! In fact, I am a bike commuter. I don’t have too many tips, expect that if you’re going to be doing longer and longer rides for training, you really must invest in a small bag for your bike with a tube repair kit for flats. There’s nothing worse than being stuck miles from home with a flat tire. Also keep cash in the bag for the bus or a cab (if you’re still near a city, that is.) One day I had to walk 2 1/2 hours home because my tire got a flat and I was without any of these things–such a bummer!

you’re so close the the bike path, it’s awesome on sunday when they close off the road on the west river side
have fun!!! and let me know if you have specific questions about training for a sprint
i’m still getting to know my way around bikes, too, so i’ll do what i can to answer those questions, too
