Menu: Armenian Christmas 2014

My husband and I realized that this year marked the 6th year that we hosted Armenian Christmas for our family. While we celebrate Christmas on December 25th, we also celebrate the Epiphany on January 6th, which the Armos affectionately call “Armenian Christmas.”

Since I’m 5 months pregnant and having kind of a rough go this time around, I was worried about hosting this year. We also happened to have tickets to Frozen on Ice the morning of the party, and had to be at church by 10:30 AM the next morning. Talk about busy! With the help of my husband and my in laws, everything came together beautifully.

Appetizers

Tray of veggies, hummus, olives, string cheese, and crackers

Aunt Tanya’s quinoa salad
Bone in chicken breast, thighs, and drumsticks (marinated in garlic, salt lemon juice, fresh oregano, and Wegman’s basting oil)
Melissa’s rice pilaf
Greek salad
Grilled eggplant
Auntie Maria’s cheese boreg

Dessert

Cece’s pound cake
Fruit platter
Pizzelle
A few extras

 

Some notes I want to remember for next year:

– We kept the apps very simple and it worked. Next year I will remember to put out more crackers and also to put nuts in the living room.

– Setting up one giant square table was brilliant. It looked beautiful and most of us got to sit down and eat together.

– I forgot to put together a centerpiece which I won’t forget next time.

– Having two main special desserts, a nice fruit platter and some little chocolate cookies was the perfect amount.

– We only need one box of joe for coffee.

– Use plastic! Clean up was far easier than usual because we used plastic plates and cutlery.
