Market Shopping Week #10: $18*
Well, this week is kind of a tough one to figure out… Last week on Saturday I spent $175 on groceries for the hugeeeee brunch PB and I hosted on Sunday. It fed about 20 people with tons and tons of leftovers, probably because my dad bought some fruits and veggies too. Anyway, I took back a bunch of the stuff at the end of the night to have for the week since I know my dad can’t eat it all. Plus PB bought us a bunch of goodies from the farmer’s market in N.H. on Friday that we didn’t get through yet, so I didn’t need much from the store at all.
I almost didn’t even go but then I ran out of bananas. You know I can’t live without them! Anyway.. on with the shopping! Thanks to Suzie’s recommendation I went to Ruggieri’s Market, a small market in Cranston, RI, for some goodies. I was seriously impressed. The veggies were so cheap and so fresh looking, and they had tons of really fresh meats too!
Here’s what I ended up with with my $18:
-5 pretty bananas
-1/2 lb sliced mesquite turkey breast
-1/4 lb sliced american cheese
-sliced hot pepper rings in a jar for PB (he loves them!)
-ORGANIC, HORMONE FREE, VEGETARIAN FED CHICKEN BREAST!!!!!
I am so stoked to try this chicken. I have really missed chicken over the last month or so, and so I am happy to finally find one I am willing to eat. I think I’ll make something with 1 piece tomorrow night, and save the rest for a meal with PB this weekend. We both noticed that without many animal protein sources these days we have been eating lots of carbs, and even though they are healthy ones we want to get a better balance going on. I personally believe that I only need the 0.8 g protein x kilogram of weight which means I am close to my target, but I’d like to be spot on.
Now here’s a question.. does anyone know anything about Boar’s Head products? Are they hormone free/veggie fed?! I don’t think so, but I sure do wish so! Any info is greatly appreciated!

That is actually really good or $18. Sounds like great chicken.
oooo i hope you enjoy the chicken 🙂
would you ever consider tuna or salmon pouches for extra protein? i am not a lunchmeat person AT ALL (kind of grosses me out), so i usually resort to tuna or salmon to use in lunches (when i don’t have pb!) 🙂
thanks for the idea lindsay!!!
I’ve never heard of Boar Head products before. Sorry!
And wow, great find on the chicken!
Hi Rhodeygirl –
The BEST chicken in RI is from Pat’s pastured poultry. Check of the FarmFreshRI web site – all of the contact information is there…
Enjoy!
Lynn
