I didn’t cook at all this week.
PhillyBoy has been away for work all week (he is on his way home this afternoon). Somehow, with him being away and me not feeling as good as usual, I just… took the week off from cooking.
Just like with exercise, sometimes I need a short break from cooking big meals or creating new recipes. It can be great to just take a step back for a few days and refresh yourself to get back in the kitchen. While I absolutely love cooking and find it to be very relaxing, I sometimes do need a break. This week was it!
This is extremely unusual. So no, I don’t have any great recipes for you this week, but I will share what I did instead.
I deep cleaned my kitchen… twice. That meant not only the usual cleaning of the counters and floor, but I got into the cabinets and cleaned the stove top. The stove top still does not look as shiny and new as it does when PB does it, but it looks pretty good!
I only turned the stove on to make tea.. the entire week.
I went shopping and bought myself one of my favorite OPI colors: strawberry margarita. I then gave myself a fabulous spring manicure.
I sat on my couch with a book, some nice music (Jazz + Glee soundtrack + Classical) and read. I haven’t done that since… well probably since I got married. For some reason we always have the TV on! Note to self: Less TV in the background.
Speaking of TV, I watched the first three episodes of Season 1 of True Blood. So far I liked it, but I hate the cliffhangers because it is hard to stop watching!
I ate foods we already had in the fridge and pantry to empty them out a bit.
I only spent $8 at the market, for whole wheat bread, bananas, and carrots. I can’t live without these 3 items.
I got my hair cut. Just a few more layers. I was going to chop it but I chickened out.
I also exercised, but probably less than I should. I did workout videos and funny workouts at home, and of course taught boot camp.
I put a new profile photo up on my home page.
I also guest posted on The Fitnessista.
I took inspiration from the I Love Salad! page and made some funky salads.
I flipped through a few magazines while chatting on the phone with some of my dearest friends. I have missed girlfriend gab sessions.
The only time I left the house after dark was to teach boot camp. When PB goes away I barricade myself in our apartment and think I hear and see things all night long. I am a scaredy cat.
I threw away my favorite sneakers of all time. Purchased May 2006 in Florence. I wore these to the death.
I missed PhillyBoy a lot. I also missed cooking. I feel refreshed and renewed and I can’t wait to make a nice dinner for our little happy family tonight!

I get in cooking funks too. Everything looks so clean and your hair is fabulous!
NICE SPRING CLEANING!
FABULOUS NEW HAIRSTYLE!
SEE YOU SOON.
I get in those moods, too. Your kitchen is beautiful. And so is your ring. π
I totally do the same thing when Josh goes away. The only real cooking I will do (and I’m not sure its really cooking cooking) is simple soups or egg dishes. Its kind of lovely to have a nice break. Love your kitchen. Beautiful. And your hair looks fantastic!
um. CAN I HAVE YOUR RINGS PLEASE? gorgeous! i’m a scaredy cat when im alone, too. don’t worry! and zucchini bread recipe is in the mail to my house. ill post it when i get it!!
@allison @ livingoneday, Thanks for your nice compliment on my rings!!
I can’t wait for the zucchini recipe yummmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!
love that nail color!!!! gorgeous ring too π
sometimes you just need a break, right?!?! definitely sounds like a well-deserved one at that! π
Hi Sabrina… love the kithcen, is that IKEA?? I have the same cabinets.. Love them. Have fun tonight with hubby… Enjoy!!
@Renee, Hi Renee! Thank you! Yes, it is IKEA cabinets, but A picked them out and renovated the whole kitchen before I ever even met him. he has good taste doesn’t he?!?!?! Have a great day!
True Blood is awesome!! That’s how I got hooked – those cliff hangers. I watched the entire first season on my computer in 2-3 days. It was a little crazy and I felt a little crazy afterwards, but it’s a good show and it comes back in June for the third season – so get watching!
I also go through cooking ruts – basically the entire last 6 weeks of my marathon training I’ve been in a cooking rut.
LOVE the new haircute and profile picture- and I’m now on a mission to find that nail color. Sounds like you had some wonderful relaxing “me time!”
Your kitchen is amazing! Of course, I’m jealous of anyone with a finished kitchen at this point. π We’ve been mid-remodel for 2 years now. SIGH
We go through phases where we eat out a lot (too much) because we’re too busy or too tired to cook.
I get that way too. Somtimes I go through cooking phases and other time I just need a break! I think it is like anything else in life…we all go through likes and dislikes of certaina activities! Oh…and GORGEOUS wedding set!
What book did you read? Anything good? I’m always looking for new books.
P was not home for a few nights this week so I took the opp to make things that only ‘I’ like. π I took off running this week. I was not feeling it. I am ready to go back though. I miss that feeling I have the rest of the morning when I run.
Your kitchen is any foodie’s dream and your ring is any girl’s dream! Beautiful! π
I am glad Philly Boy is coming home today, I can just about imagine how much you miss him. I’d miss my boy like crazy!
I think we always need time away from the things we love to truly appreciate them for all they’re worth.
Whenever my husband travels I kind of hole up at home too! Protecting the nest? I don’t know but that’s what happens π
I went through the exact same thing this week, nothing new and exciting, but it was so relaxing! (And cooking is normally relaxing for me too!)
I DEFINITELY go through cooking breaks…but I hadn’t thought of how it’s like exercise breaks…it so is! Anyway, you’ll find yourself wanting to come back to it soon enough. And your nails look great!!
Love all the pampering π Beautiful haircut and nail color! I totally feel the same way about cooking sometimes when Sherif isn’t around (but the difference is that I start remembering to clean when it’s really close to the time he’s coming back lol…)
Your hair looks so pretty! You need a break and I’m glad that you took it. Have fun playing around in the kitchen when you feel like it again. Take care!
Im beyond smitten with the aesthetics of this post.
SO BEAUTIFUL.
all of it.
in a way my own blog never is π
YAY for a manicure! Love that color!
Wow you have such pretty hair! I am always jealous of people with dark thick hair. Anyways I just wanted to say “Hi” since I saw your blog from the Healthy Living Summit emails (I’m also going to be speaking).

I LOVE your long hair and i really love all the layers! Looks great!! Your home is so beautiful I love when you post pictures of it π
When my boyfriend is away too I feel lonely and just not the same too. I’m glad he’s home!
Your kitchen is absolutely gorgeous. I love checking out photos of it via your posts π
Sounds like a relaxing week, even though you missed PB π Strawberry Margarita is one of my favorite colors too! Hope all is well with you!
