Guest Post: The Food Trust & A Journey to 26.2
Hi everyone! My name is Melissa and I write the blog Miles for Markets.
A quick background on me – last year I took a big leap of faith and left my marketing job in New York City and moved home to pursue a graduate degree in nutrition. After a year of science pre-requisites, I can now proudly say that starting in January 2011, I will officially begin my journey to becoming a Registered Dietician in Drexel University’s M.S. in Human Nutrition program.
I started my blog a few months ago to document my training for the Philadelphia Marathon – which I am running this Sunday! – and to showcase the gorgeous farmers’ markets in the Philadelphia area in an effort to help raise money for The Food Trust. As I explain here, I chose The Food Trust because its mission – to make healthy food available to all – is something I believe in. For more information on The Food Trust and what they’re capable of, read this post – Why The Food Trust?
Here are some of my favorite posts from the past few months:
Before, During and After I RAN 20 MILES
5 Runners, 14 Hours, 84 Miles…1 Race
Why Local?
Headhouse Farmers’ Market
And of course – When Life Gives You A Pasta Maker… (courtesy of RhodeyGirl!)
I am SO excited to run the Philadelphia Marathon this Sunday. I have a pretty full weekend ahead of me – including the expo, prepping for the race, hosting friends and family, fueling for and actually running the marathon, and then of course recovery (which will include plenty of delicious foods!). I hope you’ll stop by and follow me through my first marathon!
If you’re interested in donating to The Food Trust, simply click HERE and write my name, Melissa Levine, in the “In honor of” box.
As noted on their website, “Donations to The Food Trust support farmers’ markets in low-income communities, school nutrition programs, supermarket development in low-income neighborhoods, and many more programs that improve access to affordable, nutritious food.”
Sabrina – thank you so much for the opportunity to be a part of RhodeyGirl! I’m looking forward to many foodie adventures with you in Philadelphia in the coming years!
