Alice’s Tea Cup
I’m not dainty. Or girly. Or super feminine.
I wish I was, but I’m not! I like to think I’m sophisticated and cool in my all black clothes and lack of frills, but… I’m probably not even that.
Alice’s Tea Cup is a cafe made for the quintessential dainty, girly, feminine woman. Fairy wings line the wall and real, mismatched china make the table settings. Children who go there are given the fairy wings to wear, and kids and adults alike are transformed to different place and a different time.
Can you remember the last time you drank out of a real tea cup? I can! It was Harrod’s in London 6 years ago when my aunt took me to have a traditional tea. With Alice’s Tea Cup there is no reason to travel all the way to England; they serve traditional afternoon tea!
Highlights, for me, include the incredible berry scones (served on the top tier) and the egg salad sandwiches (served on the middle tier). The scones had not just bits of berries, but whole berries dotted throughout. They were warm and just a bit crumbly but also soft. I wanted to take one home for PB, but thought it might be strange to order a scone to go. As I left I learned that in fact many people do that.
The service is warm and friendly and the experience is fun and nostalgic.
Now I just have to figure out how to get PB to take me there……

Love the post and great seeing you!
Never been there but it looks like a charming place!
That place seems SO cool! I’d love go there (and I don’t even drink tea!). We reviewed their cookbook and it is AMAZING
what a beautiful place! it reminds me of the little tea shop my MIL threw a bridal shower for me in 🙂
I have been there a bunch of times because I live in NY and I love it!! It is soo cute and makes me all happy inside. 🙂
i remember taking my little cousin there when she was five or six, back when we lived in nyc. actually, she took me there, since her parents paid.
For some reason I have been to tea so many times. I was in a sorority in college and our alumni group always loved to go to tea so I went with them twice and then I took my mother out to tea before I left Boston. If you’re ever looking to have great tea there (or any of your readers are) I love the tea at L’Espalier in Boston. So, so yummy. Although I’ve heard great things about the tea at the Boston Library as well and have always wanted to go.
Must not be as big in Chicago as no one here has asked me to go.
I almost went here for lunch with a friend recently but our plans fell through. Looks like I really need to try it!!
what a fun place for a bridal shower or girl’s day! i had heard some good things about it and it really does look fun
This place is one of my absolute favorites in NY! I actually even just bought their cookbook not that long ago! Food is great, love the decor (yes, I like that it’s girly!). I’ve taken scones to go a couple of times, only thing is that it’s hard to take the jam or cream home when you’re just in the city for the day. I actually signed their guestbook once and told them they should open one in Philly! I like your second to last line – I think I’d have to twist Alex’s arm to go with me!
ya know … i love your blog, and read it most everyday. but lately its like one big advertisement. kinda annoying.
@Allie, Really? I’m guessing you feel that way because of all the foodie gift posts + restaurant posts. So that you know, it’s almost over!! I wanted to share some favorite foodie items or items I’ve seen and liked to give other people ideas, and I was not paid to write about any of them.
And the restaurants are just a product of the time of year. I usually only write about a restaurant if I LOVED it or HATED it, and with all the holiday parties and traveling at this time of year I guess I have been writing about way more restaurants than usual.
Thanks for your comment- it helps me to know how my readers feel. Tomorrow I am posting a family recipe so hopefully you will enjoy that post!!!!
Thank you for not taking the comment the wrong way. Can’t wait to see your recipe tomorrow!
I think you’re dainty and feminine!
Anyway, yes. Love all around. Although, it looks like from the pictures that was a different one than near my apt.
I’ve never been but it reminds me of my grandmother! She would LOVE that place. Any my mom, too, who collects tea cups. 🙂
Yes I have! I recently discussed it on my blog too 🙂 I love that place!!
What a cool place! I’ve never been to a traditional tea before, but would love the experience!
