23 weeks: Just call me Mrs. Fix It
Where is this energy coming from? I’m like the Energizer bunny where I go go go… and then I suddenly crash and need to let my body catch up to my mind. You can tell from my tired eyes:
And for comparison’s sake. Here I am at 18 weeks, still well rested:
I know it’s early but it seems like we are seriously nesting. Here’s what we did just this weekend:
1. Changed 3 light fixtures, including the one in bambino’s room.
2. Painted a fun lemon yellow square around the light fixture in bambino’s room.
3. Patched a few holes from paintings and painted over those.
4. Re-hung a mirror over the guest bed.
5. Removed the closet door from bambino’s room young-house-love style to free up a few cubic feet for furniture.
6. Removed the closet door from PB’s closet to save him space.
7. Rebuilt a wall/outlet in the living room.
8. Hung a new mirror in the bathroom.
9. Fixed an outlet on the kitchen island (the one Meghann thought she broke that was actually already broken ha)
10. ORDERED OUR CRIB FURNITURE! (I promise to share once it gets in and is assembled)
Obviously I was more the design specialist/assistant and PB did the hard work, but we were both busy for several hours Sunday and Monday getting all of that done (plus selecting and buying all the stuff). I am so proud of us/him!
Here is our new light fixture in the baby’s room. It’s from Ikea and I love it.
I promise to share the whole room from original before to final after as soon as it is done.
I also love my husband even more (as if that is even possible) now that I know what a handy man he is.
I feel like this week was a game changer. My thoughts have been 100% baby-centric. I am not sleeping well and I wake up several times every night, yet I somehow find the energy to be nonstop during the day. I know I need to slow down (and I know I say that every week) but I feel like I am taking caffeine pills with the random bursts of energy I get.
Today I drove from Philly to RI and ended up calling the doctor on the way. I hadn’t been feeling as many kicks the last few days and it made me nervous. I also had never felt any kicks on the upper left quadrant of my belly which made me anxious too. The nurse called me back immediately and told me the different tests to try. She also helped me relax by telling me that I only need to worry about feeling some fetal movement each day and not the actual amount. Of course, after I got off the phone I drank a ton of icy water and felt bambino kick for a solid 10 minutes, including kicks on the left side for the first time. The punk just wants to get me nervous! I don’t think I’ve been a crazy pregnant person as far as calling the doc too much, but I am proud of myself for actually calling and knowing it was the right thing to do. I probably just needed to calm down to feel my baby kick me. Also doesn’t help to be rushing around all the time.
Tonight is the night I called my dad home from being out to kill a fly. In my defense, the fly was seriously the size of a quarter- the biggest one I’ve ever seen and it was definitely a fly. I had it trapped in this garbage can:
…but then it got away. I shut off my bedroom light, turned on the one in my brother’s room and trapped the fly in. My dad killed it when he got home. Thanks, dad!
Here’s what Babycenter says about 23 weeks:
How your baby’s growing:
Turn on the radio and sway to the music. With her sense of movement well developed by now, your baby can feel you dance. And now that she’s more than 11 inches long and weighs just over a pound (about as much as a large mango), you may be able to see her squirm underneath your clothes. Blood vessels in her lungs are developing to prepare for breathing, and the sounds that your baby’s increasingly keen ears pick up are preparing her for entry into the outside world. Loud noises that become familiar now — such as your dog barking or the roar of the vacuum cleaner — probably won’t faze her when she hears them outside the womb.
I do see some kicks from the outside now and again, but only at night or around 11 am. That seems to be bambino’s favorite times!
Random facts of the week:
Current cravings: For the first time in my life I want to eat light foods in the summer. I usually gain weight in the summer and lose in the fall because of a bigger summer appetite, but it looks like this summer is different (aside from the gaining weight part). Yes, I am really hungry all the time, but I crave the lighter foods over the heavier ones. I also had a food-related meltdown. Hilarious.
Overall weight gain: According to my scale I’ve gained 18 lbs as of 23.5 weeks. Not much to say about that except that I finally feel pregnancy beautiful and I know my body is doing what it needs to do.
Hours of air conditioning I put on each day: at least 4, which is rare for me. I am just SO HOT.
Covers I sleep under: 0. PB gets to cocoon himself in the sheets alone while I lay sweating and he freezes. It is comical.
Clothes purchased this week: 5-7 items from Old Navy- only 1 maternity, all comfortable
Scary nightmares about bambino: 2. That’s all I want to say about that.
Questions I have for my doctor’s appointment next week: a record low of 4!
Do you have any questions for me? I’d be happy to answer any.
