tip: we leave late evening for long road trips so the kids fall asleep before their limit is reached and we only stay up a little later than our bedtime by the time we reach or destination.
I so hope we win, our vacation is the first week of august so this would be well – timed 🙂
Pack plenty of snacks!
We do the same thing my grandfather did with me… Bingo you know b brown cow etc
I try to make nap time and driving time overlap.
When visiting a theme park with kids, if you arrive just as it opens head right to the back of the park where things are bound to be much less crowded. We did this at Legoland FL and we were able to ride a few of the roller coasters multiple times in a row as very few people had made their way to back.
Try to be flexible with their schedules. They might not nap at the same time, etc. but try to go with the flow… Which is tough for a type A person like me!
My best tip is to say “yes” more often than usual. Break a few rules…stay up a little later, eat messy ice cream, play in the water park even if you forgot bathing suits.
We live in MA and are planning a trip to Storyland in August. I can’t wait!
Expect the unexpected! We took our 2 yr old son to Kings Dominion on a day where it was POURING down rain ALL day… Instead of being bummed, we made the best of the rides that were still running & made the rain and all the huge puddles part of the fun. We went back to our hotel soaking wet, but we had a great time doing it!! 🙂
pack a lunch and freeze water bottle’s it keeps things cold and also ensures your drinks are ice cold on a hot day. for older kids let them do chores to earn money for souvenirs or extra treats. for the car ride get new inexpensive actives to keep them entertained.
Congratulations! You are the random winner. I will email you right now to get your mailing address.
We recently drove 800 miles with a freshly potty trained toddler and our 6 month old. My tip for that long of a car trip is pack the portable potty. This made the emergency “I have to go” requests much easier to handle!
don’t push them to see everything – just enjoy what they want to see.
We drive to Florida from Philadelphia every summer to visit my husband’s family. Our son is now 3, and I found a few things that worked like magic, but the #1 thing was wrapping toys from the Dollar Stop at Target and gave him one every time he started to get cranky… worked like a charm 🙂
Have EVERYTHING packed the night before – all the way packed, like in the car if it doesn’t need refrigeration. And if it does, have that all packed in a grocery bag in the fridge so you can just grab it and put it in the cooler on your way out the door. Saves so much time getting out of the house!
My tip for traveling: bring a couple of things (small blankets, stuffed animals) that smell like home for your child to sleep with. I think it helps mine sleep & also helps them feel comfortable when they wake up in the morning.
Best trip tip ever: bring a change of clothes for yourself too! Not just the kids. Only had to use my change of clothes once but I’m always glad I have them! Id love to win because we are planning to head there in September anyway!!
My tip for traveling with kids is to go with the flow! Naps and schedules are unpredictable, so it’s best to keep an open mind – everyone is less stressed that way! I hope we win – we don’t live too far and have never been!
My survival tip for traveling with young kids is to be flexible and willing to bend the rules a little bit. Even if you usually limit sugar, TV, etc., if your kid is screaming in the back seat of the car or on the plane, give him/her a lollipop or an extra cookie. Pull up some shows or games on the ipad. Do what you need to do to make it to your destination (and maintain your sanity)!
My best tip is to bring extra clothes, snacks, drinks, a stroller for the younger ones and tons of baby wipes – earlier the better — well atleast for me
