I finally did it!
I haven’t mentioned this before but I have been trying to make the switch from Skippy Natural to just plain ground peanuts for MONTHS! Finally, FINALLY, I did it. I mean, I did buy the fresh ground honey roasted peanut butter from Whole Foods, but I feel that a little honey is probably a lot better for me than that Skippy stuff, right???
This morning I had my usual breakfast but with my new and improved topping:
Freshly ground nuts taste so much lighter, don’t they? And not only did I have my new nut butter for breakfast, but I said goodbye to the junk.
I am feeling great about this! Over the years I have made many changes to my day to day diet, and this is just the newest.
I did it the same way I got rid of sweetener in my tea. With my tea I started with milk and sugar, then milk and equal, then equal, then splenda, then nothing. I haven’t had sweetened tea since college (4 years ago at least).
The traditional nut butter was harder. I made myself have the Whole Foods freshly ground kind about once a week, usually the same day that was treat day so I had another meal to look forward to more (breakfast is my favorite, and these plain nut butters were not). Over time I started having it more and more. Today I decided I am DONE with the jarred stuff! I am so psyched!!!!
PB had a second bachelor party last night, this time with his college friends, while I spent the weekend doing such wedding activities as my hair trial, dress fitting, and meeting to finalize menu card and ceremony program design. After such a busy weekend I need a bit of relax time. So I am currently blogging from this position where I plan on staying for at least one more hour:
Yes I am watching Bride Wars (on demand) and Yes I have really bony feet.
I can’t believe I am getting married so soon! It became really real this weekend with talks of actual dates my overseas relatives are arriving, my hair trial, and dress fitting! This time around, after a month of eating super well, I had breathing room, although my dress probably weighs 10 lbs and I am going to be so SWEATY that day!
Have you given up a food you really like to replace it with something healthier.. for life? I LOVE plain tea or even hot water now, and I am starting to love this nut butter too. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to either.
I love the natural nut butters and I will never go back. I had a taste of the “other stuff” the other day and I thought it tasted so *fake* if you know what I mean! I just don’t like it anymore.
Another change I made about 6-8 months ago was switching from dairy milk to soy, almond and/or rice milk. I have found that this switch has helped me skin become clearer and my belly has also thanked me (no bloating!).
What sorts of things have you done to ensure that your diet is very clean in the months leading up to your wedding?? I will be trying on my dress again at the end of July and I can’t wait!!! I know what you mean though, I am going to be sweating buckets as well! haha.
oooooooooo Bride Wars is on demand?! I may have to check that out!!!
hurray for naturally ground nut butters!! PB is my fav!!!
sounds like a great weekend, you must be getting excited!
I’m pretty sure that by this point I’ve given up sweet n’ low. This is week 4 of no cancer sugar. I’m feeling really good 🙂
Would love to see pics of your hair trial! I loved Bride Wars, such a cute movie.
Congratulations! Soon you will be hooked on only nuts. Do you have a blender or food processor? I bet you would love to make your own!
I gave up splenda and (this is gross) spraying cooking butter spray on popcorn. I know!!!!
Hey, congrats! That’s an awesome step in the raw direction!!!
Woohoo!! Don’t you love when you finally kick the sugar? I have really bony feet too and it freaks people out sometimes – oh well 😉
Savor every minute leading up to your wedding, girl!!
Ever since I made the switch a little after graduating college, I havent looked back either!! Skippy just doesnt taste as good anymore!
Congratulations! That’s a really big step.
I made the switch from buttery microwave popcorn to oil popped popcorn with butter to oil popped popcorn with no butter to airpopped popcorn with nothing added. I love it now. It’s best to make the change gradually, for sure! And now? I don’t even like the microwave stuff. Tastes change drastically with what we’re used to.
i also watched that movie this weekend!
i loveeeeeeeee raw almond butter now and before i couldn’t imagine anything but skippy PB. im addicted now and dont even like skippy anymore!
i think i should see that movie as me and my best girlfriend are both currently engaged, haha. atleast her wedding is in nyc and mine is in ca.
so i made za’atar tofu and LOVEDDDDDDDD it. i just posted about it today – so check it out!
i am so impressed you drink your tea so bare now. my coffee is not so naked. maybe one day…
