Food diary: 01.09.2013
Every now and again I’ll share a day of food with you.
No matter what I do it seems to take me an entire hour to drop Raffi off at daycare and get back home. Most days I eat breakfast with Raffi before we leave, but this morning I chose to unload the dishwasher and get some things ready for dinner instead.
When I got home it was already 10 AM so I quickly toasted up two giant pieces of Whole Foods fresh whole wheat boule with Skippy natural peanut butter and some grape jelly. We were a peanut free home for a long time because of Raffi’s peanut allergy, but now I keep peanut butter on hand to eat when he isn’t around.
At 1 PM I still wasn’t hungry for lunch, but by 1:15 PM my appetite went from 0 to 100. I made myself 2 slices of toast pizza (Italian bread, tomato sauce and shredded mozzarella) and had a nice big salad on the side. I’ve been trying to eat more vitamin rich foods since my diet has been all over the place with the holidays. This salad had baby spinach, romaine, shredded carrots, tomatoes, 3/4 avocado, some feta and a lemon olive oil dressing.
I always have a pretty strong sweet tooth so I always plan something sweet into my afternoon. Today it’s a chocolate chip cookie with hot decaf tea. I enjoyed it less than an hour after lunch. I always have a snack between lunch and dinner even if I’m not very hungry. I find it keeps me happier and bound to eat a more normal portion at dinner.
I’ve really been enjoying our Ninja cooking system and use it 1-2 times a week. This morning I prepped our dinner and it made my house smell delicious all day. On the menu is homemade chicken soup with onions, celery, chicken, spinach, and ditalini. I had two giant bowls along with a small grilled cheese sandwich. I also had some caffeine free soda, which I typically limit to 1-2 times a month. Trig and I enjoyed dinner in the living room after Raffi went to bed. We have one more episode of Downton Abbey to watch before we are completely caught up. I bought Trig seasons 1 & 2 for Christmas and we’ve been slowly (or quickly?) making our way through it.
Just a short while after dinner and dishes I decided to have something else. I ate a super cold orange with yet more decaf tea. I also ended up eating 2 of those Dove milk chocolate promises. I bought them for the holidays but it seems I’m the only one that’s been eating them. More for me!
It makes me quite self conscious to share everything I’ve eaten in a day with all of you. I forgot what that feels like.
Goal for today: To eat 3 different colors.
Goal achieved? Yes. I ate red tomatoes, orange carrots, green spinach, and green avocado.
Note: I am 27 weeks pregnant as I write this.
That sounds about right for 27 weeks! hehe. At the beginning, all I wanted was cheese, not I NEED to eat something sweet.
Looks pretty normal to me. I see you like bread, but I can’t blame you! I love toast in any form.
At 13.5 weeks, I eat a lot during the day because I have some awesome (not) evening sickness that makes me feel gross most days starting anywhere between 1pm and 8pm, which makes dinner hard to eat. I can’t seem to fit a big lunch in my stomach right now either – even though my baby is still tiny – but I literally eat 2-3 snacks most days between lunch and my often light dinner. Hopefully I can get the snacking under control after the baby comes and I start eating “normally” again.
do you feel as though it’s very hard to eat dinner late? we eat so early, like by 5:00 seriously (we are ready to be senior citizens!!), I don’t feel as though I could wait until after the kids are in bed. I feel like I eat a large dinner at 5:00 but then I very rarely eat anything else for the whole night and I try to exercise around 7:30 too.
Hi April, sometimes I eat dinner with Raffi and just save my salad for when my husband comes home. Other days I can wait until after Raffi goes to bed without a problem. It depends on the day I guess.
I’m 14 weeks pregnant with my first child. All your meals looked great. I try to eat as much as I can during the day because I have night sickness. Question, I see that you had feta in your salad, I was told to stay away from feta while pregnant and I’ve been missing it so much. Do you have it in moderation?
Hi Carla, I was always told that any cheese I eat needs to be pasteurized. The feta I buy is pasteurized and I really enjoy it. I was told that’s the only reason not to eat it, but most cheeses I find are pasteurized. Hope this helps. I’d ask your doctor but I bet he or she will say the same.
that looks super healthy and tasty!
Girl how did you make it to ten am without eating? I am thirteen weeks, and most days I’m on my post-breakfast mid morning snack by 1030. The food sounded wonderful, though I’m sure I eat more than that in a day. Maybe this is why I have 9lb babies.
It takes me forever when I drive to daycare because although it’s only a mile and a half away I have to park, bring him in, and head back. I didn’t have a choice but to wait until I got home. Many days I eat breakfast first thing (around 8 AM), but on his two daycare days I sometimes wait.
Why self conscious? I’m not pregnant and eat the same amount typically (minus the dairy and meat though as I’m vegan). Looks healthy to me! And yeah, I’m starving when I wake up and could never wait until 10am for breakfast!
