I love Stonyfield Farms yogurt. Raffi only eats the Stonyfield Farms YoBaby yogurt and no other brand yogurt. We’ve tried other brands, but they are not nearly as delicious or healthy and pure as the Stonyfield Farms brand of yogurts.
When it comes to yogurt, canned tomatoes (San Marzano only), and pasta (Barilla please) I am completely brand loyal. Stonyfield Farms recently came out with a new line of yogurts called Blends.
I was excited to try them as they are being advertised as a thick and creamy yogurt with real fruit mixed in. I used to love fruit flavored yogurts when I was younger but haven’t had them in years as the aspartame from the other brand yogurts would give me a horrible headache.
The Blends yogurts have all real ingredients – no aspartame or other junk – and they taste delicious too. They are creamier than typical fruit flavored yogurts, and they have come up with some great combinations. The peach mango was refreshing and I imagine would be fantastic in a smoothie in the summer, but the blackberry is my favorite. It is very creamy, almost but not quite as creamy as a Greek yogurt, and the blackberry flavor is completely blended in – no bits or seeds. I love yogurt that is blended so well because it makes it taste more like a dessert and less like a healthy snack. My only gripe about the yogurt is that they don’t make a full fat version yet. I typically only eat full fat yogurt and full fat foods in general (except milk). I hope Stonyfield Farms comes out with a full fat version of their Blends yogurt, but for now I’ll buy the low fat – especially since it comes in Black Cherry. Yum.
This morning for breakfast we used our new Blendtec Blender to make a blackberry banana smoothie that we all enjoyed. Here is the recipe:
Blackberry Banana Smoothie
Serves 2 + a toddler
Ingredients:
1 container Stonyfield Farms Blends blackberry yogurt
2 cups whole organic milk
1 banana
about 15 ice cubes (depending on the size of your cubes)
Directions: Blend on the smoothie setting for about 15 seconds and enjoy.
We all loved the smoothie, and I loved the blender too. We have a Vitamix that I bought two years ago and use daily. A lot of people want to compare the Vitamix to the Blendtec, and now that I’ve tried both I can share my thoughts. First, I believe every cook should own a high end blender if they can afford it. I don’t own a stand mixer, and my $15 hand mixer does practically the same job a stand mixer would do. I mean, I would love one, but I don’t think it is worth spending the money on it when my cheap hand mixer will do. However, my Vitamix and Blendtec are far superior to the cheaper blenders I used to own, and it was worth the $400 investment to buy one. The advantage to the Vitamix is that it can handle whole fruits very easily, making it take little to no time to make a multi-fruit smoothie. I can make soups, sauces, and lots of other things in it too. However, the Vitamix doesn’t fit on the counter under the cabinets because it is so tall and large. The Blendtec does not handle whole fruits as well, but with a few extra seconds it catches up to the Vitamix. It makes a perfectly thick smoothie (and I mean THICK, the way I like them) in exactly the same amount of time as my Vitamix – about 15 seconds max. The advantage to the Blendtec is that I can keep it on my counter all summer long as the jar is wider and shorter and fits under the cabinets.
Tip: To clean a blender jar, simply rinse it out, fill with a little soap and a couple of cups of water, and blend on high for about 15 seconds. Rinse well and you’re done! The blender will be sparkly clean.

I Love spinach smoothies – with almost any mix of bananas and fruit mixed in and unsweetened vanilla almond milk for a liquid.
Our favorite smoothies are a cup of plain Stonyfield yogurt, a cup of almond milk, a frozen banana, 3/4 cup frozen raspberries, a handful of spinach and a dash of maple syrup. Yum!

My favorite smoothie recipe as of late is banana, coconut water, pineapple, kale, and spinach. I get a ton of greens in and the fruit combination makes me feel like it is not 10 degrees outside and I am somewhere tropical : )
