Stitch Fix #7
For Stitch Fix #7 I not only asked for specific styles, I asked for very specific items. I spent about an hour scouring Pinterest and my favorite blogs and picked out items I actually wanted. I only received 1 exact match out of the 5 requested, but I did get similar items for the other 4.
Here’s what I got and what I think:
Urban Expressions – Clyde Graphic Print Woven Hobo Bag $68
I LOVE this bag. Since I take my pics myself, mostly in my bathroom mirror, I couldn’t get a great one of me holding it. And by the way I wonder who it is that takes these photos for all these reviews. Happy husbands? Friends? It’s funny to think about what’s going on behind the camera and the scenes. This bag is a beautiful navy blue, and the woven parts have little specs of neon green and radiant orchid. It has a zippered top and a zippered pocket inside. I’m not sure that I need a bag like this because I mostly wear black, but it’s just so gorg!
I have a bag problem the way some people have a shoe problem. I not only have my own collection of bags, starting with the hot pink patent leather purse my parents bought me from France when I was 9 and ending with a designer diaper bag, I also have all my mom’s gorgeous vintage Fendis and Salvatore Ferragamos. Do I need a bag? No. Do I love this one for this specific fall? Yes.
Now that I sound like a spoiled brat I’ll move on to the next piece.
Spun Scarves by Subtle Luxury – Lilo Embroidery Detail Abstract Print Scarf $68
This scarf is perfectly nice, but it reminds me of the scarves you can buy on the street in Florence or Jerusalem for a few dollars. In this case I think I’d rather wear a cheap scarf with a memory attached to it then spend $68 on this one. It was not heavyweight but not super summer-light material either. I love all the bright colors and different designs. It looked really cute on especially when I paired it with jeans and a jacket. I don’t think I will keep it though.
Tart – Kelcie Ikat Print Fitted Dress $128
This is the item that I specifically requested and received. It looked so super cute in a Stitch Fix review I read, and I decided I was going to keep it before I even tried it on. Then I tried it and realized it doesn’t work for my body type. It’s so cute on others though! The back has a small cutout and the material is soft and stretchy. This would have been a great pick for me before kids, and sometimes I forget to make that mental adjustment. I forget that my body is not the same body I used to have. As an aside, here’s my weight loss story for those of you who have never seen it.
LA MADE – Redhouse Striped Hooded Sweatshirt $108
Loved it. Keeping it. I don’t care about the price. It’s so hard for me to find a comfy cozy sweatshirt that also doesn’t make me look like I’m really overweight. Anyone else have that problem? This is the ideal fall sweatshirt and I can already picture myself drinking tea and snuggling up on the couch to read while wearing it. OK the mom translation to that is chasing kids at the playground, but you get the idea. It’s super soft, like everything else I received, and was sized right. I like that it’s oversized. This is a medium so I can imagine that the large, my normal size, would have been overwhelmingly big. Just something to keep in mind if you request this exact piece. The only thing missing is thumb holes! Oh, and I love that I can wear it with my comfy leggings and call it an outfit.
Three Dots – Nevin 3/4 Sleeve Leopard Print Sweatshirt $74
I took a photo of this with a white background so you can see the colors better. Despite loading up on the sunblock, I am so tan right now that it’s hard to know how something might actually look in the winter. I guess it’s the sign of a great sun and beach-filled summer! Anyway, I love this piece. They call it a sweatshirt, but the only sweatshirt thing about it is the material. It fits great and also fits in with my typical wardrobe theme of black and white. Ultimately I think I might not keep this because I really want to keep the hooded sweatshirt and can’t justify both. I can’t quite decide though because it looks so nice with a pair of jeans. I can imagine wearing this outfit a lot.
I keep trying new strategies with Stitch Fix to see what works. So far what’s worked best for me is giving one specific thing I’m looking for (i.e. shirts for going out) and then letting them have full reign. I really liked this fix too though and I had given specific requests for each style item. For my next fix I gave specific styles I like but not specific items, so I’m curious to see how it goes. I also adjusted my sizing one size down since it seems most of the clothes they send me aren’t too fitted anyway. That is working well for me this month.
Thoughts? Which pieces should I keep? Don’t try and talk me out of the hooded sweatshirt – I’m in love!
For the uninitiated, here’s how Stitch Fix works: You pay $20 for your box of clothes picked out for you by a stylist. They know your sizes and style by a profile you fill out, and they know what you’re looking for because you tell them. If you keep any of the items they send you, the $20 gets applied to them. If you send everything back, you pay $20 and call it a day. You have 3 days to decide what to keep and what to send back, and they do their best to pick pieces within your budget.

I loved both tops and I totally agree about the scarf!
FYI I saw the hooded sweatshirt in another blog post so I started googling it. 6pm has it in that color and a red & cream color (http://www.6pm.com/lamade-stripe-hoodie-w-pocket-french-terry) for $40. Not sure if they have your size but figured its worth a look!
Gotta love the Stitch Fix markup lol.
Thanks for letting me know!
I have a bag problem too! So horrible. I have given some away but my hubby still makes fun of me and calls me a bag lady… actually that was also my mom’s nickname for me growing up 😉
Love that sweatshirt. I may have to purchase it myself.
I love the hooded sweatshirt and the bag. I’d keep those two items.
I LOVE the sweatshirt! And I agree that the scarf is really cute but was to pricey!!!
