I can’t believe that in less than 8 weeks we will become a family of 5. There’s something so relaxing about going into this the third time and knowing what to expect. Of course I know having 3 kids is not like having 2 and clearly not like having 1, but I’m more excited than scared (unlike the last two times).
We’ve had little to do to prepare for this little one. Our older two now share a room. I bought a couple of new sets of sheets and will buy the baby her own coming home outfit. I’ve arranged a summer of maternity leave fun, which includes a few weeks at the beach and an extended visit to Rhode Island.
As a mom living in Philadelphia, we have two modes of transportation we use daily: one is the stroller, and that’s a situation I still need to figure out. I can’t decide if the ride along board will be worth it or not.
The other is the car!
We have a Jeep Grand Cherokee, and everyone warned me that one day, with 3 children, we’d need a new car. Luckily, the Diono Radian RXT convertible car seat exists. It’s one of the only car seats on the market that can fit 3 seats across a standard car. If you’re also shopping for a used car, Autozin is your go-to destination for finding the perfect pre-owned vehicle. Browse our impressive selection and drive away with confidence. Toyota Tundra TSS is a fantastic option if you’re looking for a family car.
We already had one Diono Radian for Raffi, so it was an easy decision to get one for Ali too. I know that lots of people have a tough time deciding on car seats, especially deciding between the Diono Radian RXT, Britax Boulevard, and Britax Frontier. To protect the children from the heat, additional products like those sun shades for car windows may be needed.
Here’s why we have chosen the Diono Radian RXT twice now:
1. It fits 3 across. This was the biggest deciding factor, as our baby will only be in the infant car seat for around 10-12 months.
2. It’s safe. It has consistently proven to be one of the safest on the market, which puts us at ease.
3. It’s pretty. This might not matter to some, but it matters to me. I like that it has clean lines and isn’t overly fluffy. It fits in with our car’s aesthetic and doesn’t scream KIDS IN HERE!
4. It’s easy to use. I will say this is a HEAVY car seat, but it is so easy to install that you won’t even notice. We are no longer a one car family, yet we only have car seats in the Jeep. We move the seats to my husband’s 1966 Shelby Mustang GT350 often for weekend adventures, and it takes less than 5 minutes for my husband to install both seats.
5. It has a low-sitting profile. What this means is that instead of needing a boost to get into the seat, my kids can climb in themselves. This was not the case with Ali’s previous convertible car seat, and it was a pain to always have to lift her into her seat. I’m sure I will appreciate this even more with 3 kids.
6. All car seats have a “shelf life” so to speak. This one has a 10 year life, so it should be the only seat your child needs after the infant seat. In fact, if you didn’t care about having a bucket seat, you could use this from birth as the rear-facing weight range is 5-45 lbs.
7. The manual is clear and easy to read. I get really frustrated when baby gear manuals are missing information or aren’t clear with their instruction. The Diono Radian manual is really easy to read and comprehensive.
I’m very passionate about baby products and baby gear, and it’s important to me that my kids have the best. Here are the 5 pieces of baby gear that I continually recommend to friends and that have lasted in my house:
1. Baby Jogger 2014 City Mini GT Double Stroller: It’s worth the expense and is better, in my opinion, than any other double stroller on the market.
2. Diono Radian RXT Convertible Car Seat: I’ve listed my reasons above, but I’d like to add that we’ve had one for 2 years now and loved it and plan to buy a 3rd one for this baby when the time comes.
3. Naturepedic Twin 2-in-1 Ultra/Quilted Mattress: It pained us to spend the money on these crib mattresses, but I feel good knowing my kids are sleeping on safe, natural, comfortable mattresses. We just bought two twins for the kids’ new shared room, and the extra expense was absolutely worth it.
4. BABYBJORN Babysitter Balance: It’s not ugly like other baby seats, and it’s so easy to move room to room. It also folds flat, which is great when we want to bring it on trips with us.
5. Fisher-Price Cradle ‘n Swing, My Little Lamb: This thing is butt ugly and takes up a lot of space in the living room, but OH. MY. GOD has it saved the day many times by helping to calm down a cranky newborn. I’m not looking forward to seeing this in my living room again, but I know the baby will love it (hopefully).
WIN!!!!!!
One RhodeyGirl reader will win a Diono Radian RXT convertible car seat in plum. To enter, leave a comment sharing your favorite baby product or piece of baby gear. I am always looking for new recommendations!
All entries must be received by Friday, April 3 and 12 PM noon. I will email the winner shortly after. Thanks and good luck!
Disclosure: Diono did send me a Diono Radian RXT for review and is also providing one for the giveaway. As mentioned in my post, I’ve been a fan of Diono already for 2 years and love their products. All opinions are my own.

My daughter loves the Radian seats for the grandkids. They also love the UppaBaby Vista I purchased for them.
My favorite product when my daughter was a newborn was her swaddle blankets, she slept so good when swaddled..so that means we slept well too!
We are liking the Chicco Polly High Chair.
I LOVE the Diono Radian seats. I’ve wanted to get them for my girls since I learned abouy then but they are a little above my price range.
Question though: how do you fit three seats across using latch? Does the middle one have to use the vehicle seatbelt?
My favorite baby product has to be our ezpz mats. I love the bowl best because it’s more versatile for us. But all of the products are amazing!
Yes, in our car the middle seat uses the seatbelt, but once you learn how to do it it’s easy to make the seat nice and tight.
Ergobaby Performance Collection Baby Carrier
Couldn’t have lived without my Ergo!!
Our jogging stroller!
The Oxo Sprout high chair has been one of our faves! Especially since we use it three times a day, every day
I don’t think we would have made it without our Halo swaddles! They were the easiest swaddles for both of us to use and my daughter slept so well in them!
with two under two we’ve gone through many products! although i have a ton that i love, one of my favorites is my britax b-ready stroller. It can be used as a single or a double and miraculously both of my boys will actually sleep in it!
With number 3 due in 8 weeks I soooooo need this! I’d say we couldn’t of lived without our Bobby Lounger. It gave us a safe spot to set our second out of reach of her sister and helped free my hands up.
I love the Baby Bjorn carrier.
My favorite baby item is lavender body lotion. I love that sweet smell on my babies.
Love my Boppy Newborn infant lounger!
My Sakura Bloom ring sling. Keeps my boys close to my heart.
We honestly loved our aden+anais muslin swaddle blankets. At two years old, our toddler still loves his and they go everywhere and turn into everything! Best gift we ever received.
My runner up would be either the 4moms MamaRoo or the Nalgene Grip n’ Go kids cups. I loved the MamaRoo, but he outgrew it so fast and we really didn’t get as much use out of it as I thought we would. Still excellent though! And the Nalgene sippy is the ONLY one we’ve ever had that truly doesn’t leak and is super easy to clean. We had to buy multiples because they fast became everyone’s favorite kids cup!
Another philly parent with kids similiar ages to your Sabrina. We also are expecting #3, however we got a suprise as it will be #3 and #4 – twins! We love
The one Diono we have – and would love to win another!
My favorites are the tried and true Ergo carrier and our Bob stroller!
My son’s sound machine the HoMedics SoundSpa is the one “baby” item that we continue to use 5 years later. I even turn it on when he is having a sleepover at his grandparents because it soothes me wot sleep as well. You can choose from 6 natural sounds — Ocean, Summer Night, Rain, White Noise, Thunder, and Brook.
My favorite piece of baby gear is probably my flip cloth diapers!
My fav baby product so far is the Baby Bjorn Carrier one.
My favorite baby item was the stroller my mom bought me.
We’re due within a week or so of each other I think 🙂
My favorite was our Rock N Play!
The Boon bottle/sippy cup cleaner is amazing!
So far,I like my daughter’s Britax clicktight car seat!
Ergo Carrier!
We couldn’t live without our Ergo carrier. Now that we have two (3 years old and 7 months), mommy needs free hands!
we love our double city mini gt!
I love our BOB!
My favorite baby product is the Wubbanub pacifiers. It saved us when our son was a baby!
Don’t know what I would do without our Graco pack and play. Would love a diono though!!!
Love our naturpedic crib mattress!!
