  1. i LOVE smoked almonds! my husband does not believe me when i tell him they taste like bacon.

  2. Here’s another yummy alternative to bacon:
I actually love to slow-roast some shitake mushrooms with a little salt and EVOO — they become crunchy, and the flavor concentrates so they taste just like bacon. I’ve used it in pasta dishes (add the crunchy mushrooms at the end) but it would be great on salads too (especially a spinach salad…mmm!).

Hmm, I may have to give this a whirl! I’m a vegetarian and I hate the fake meat products. Thanks!

  5. I’m totally going to try this in the next recipe I make that calls for bacon! I am not a bacon fan!

  6. thanks for the post!!! I was just making granola this morning and thinking what are good alternatives for walnuts, these look great!

  7. oh i love all the new flavored almonds. i just tried the cocoa ones, amazing! i’ll have to give these a try too:)

  8. YOU are SO RIGHT!!! I have not had those in ages!!! YUM!

  9. OMG, totally buying some! As a vegetarian, I still love the smell of bacon but think the alternative meat stuff is gross and scary! Those sound like the perfect edition to a salad! I bet they would make a great savory nut butter for a “B”LT!

  10. Obv not bacon-y, but have you tried the wasabi ones? Yum!

  11. That’s genius! I’m not a vegetarian, but one of the meats we don’t eat is pork, so I do miss my bacon. Thanks for the tip!

  12. I’m definitely trying this at some point in the near future. Thanks for the great tip!

  13. Ooooh good idea! you should try liqued smoke on tempeh – really adds that smokiness!

  14. best. snack. ever. 🙂

  15. I never thought of these as a bacon substitute, but from a flavor profile perspective, it makes sense. I went to a raw vegan restaurant that made eggplant bacon using a food dehydrator once. It was pretty fantastic. I tried it at home and have been meaning to make it again.
